Overdraft Protection
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway.
We provide two types of overdraft protection to all eligible members. We also offer extended coverage for those who enroll.
Savings Overdraft
River Region Credit Union automatically transfers the amount needed from your Savings account to cover any debits for a small fee. Only six transfers can be made per month from your Regular Savings. (Federal Regulation D)
Overdraft Privilege
Overdraft Privilege is a privilege we extend to all eligible members with accounts open at least 35 days. In the event of an accidental overdraft we will cover checks, transactions using your checking account number, and automatic bill payments. We do not cover ATM or everyday debit card transactions. When all other overdraft options have been exhausted, Overdraft Privilege saves you fees that may be charged by merchants for items returned.
We pay your charges in anticipation that you will repay the overdraft immediately. Each overdraft incurs a overdraft fee. There is no limit on the number of fees incurred per day. If not repaid within 32 days, overdraft privilege may be suspended.
Coverage of overdraft items is discretionary. Your account will be evaluated based upon age of account, account history, deposit activity, overdraft instances and account status to determine if it is financially sound to honor your overdraft items.
Extended Coverage
If you would like additional overdraft protection on ATM and everyday debit card transactions, please call us 866-649-5015.
